I'm not sure I buy the assumption that common sense Republicans don't already know. I also have a hard time seeing how common sense Republicans are not already all in on this. They had always displayed autocratic tendencies in the way they governed, always demanding obedience to their president but claiming that dissent is patriotic when it's a Democratic president. I think the common sense Republicans formed a chrysalis during Trump 1 and emerged as full on MAGA fascists during Biden years.

The only mystery is why never Trumpers have not given up yet. Were they too libertarian to begin with? Maybe some. I suppose every never Trumpers has their own reason to be so.
