The Trump admin has now been saying they are NOT cutting the National Severe Storms Lab in Norman Ok nor will they close any of the toehrs. They're all "fully funded" under the BBB. Except they're not, what's changed is that Tom Cole, R of Oklahoma in the House said HE will make sure it's fully funded. But then Cole admitted that's tough to do because even if Congress pulls back the power on NSSL, if Trump just refuses grants under CIWRO, then NSSL still isn't anywhere near fully funded and will have to close down. And if you read Project 2025 it very clearly says NOAA has to be broken up because it's doing too much research on Climate Change and Conservatives see that as a financial issue. It is "harmful to future US prosperity" to believe in Climate Change, so they HAVE to break up NOAA and in particular defund NSSL.
So Trump is denying cuts had anything to do with the TExas response, Trump is insisting they reinstated all the weather stuff, but very clearly they are still not fully funding it they're just now denying they cut it.
