Agree

> As to DEI, look around. We've been moving towards those goals for years, but once the hard core committed on both sides got into it with each other, then it all broke down. If DEI is looked at as a push comes to shove issue, then progress becomes more difficult. I really don't care how many statues of confederate generals are in parks in the South, or military bases named after them. I do care when people of all colors and persuasions are not afforded the opportunity to move among us without fear or shame.

So much of it is performatory. As part of my evaluation, I need to write a paragraph on my DEI contributions.

Not a big deal, I do a lot of diversity work in college but basically any sentence like I'm nice to minorities is enough.

What is troublesome is where minorities or the poor are treated as less capable.

For example, it is now considered good DEI practice to give 50% on work that is not turned in. You can get 80% 2/3 of the class, and not show up to the rest and pass.

There is a fight that derogatory words should never be allowed in class, regardless of context. That would mean works of MLK, Malcolm X, Mark Twain, Shakespeare, Lincoln, etc, would have to be banned.

We saw the firing at UCLA for a professor who did not agree to guess who were black in his class and give them a passing grade during the Floyd riots at the demand of a white student.

Part of DEI has turned into treating minorities as less capable or now allowing for context. Also you don't allow for people to be in different places on the spectrum of belief. I certainly am glad I'm not judge by my high school beliefs.
