At one time, sugar cane was big business in Puerto Rico

I was born on a sugar plantation in Ensenada PR. The plantation as mostly self-sufficient - we had our own police department, fire station, hospital, radio station, etc.

Looking back, I see it was very colonial. But as a kid, it was paradise for me.
