and the ACA did not change anything about the underlying dynamics of what we got.

A U.S. surgeon trying to have a “peer to peer” consultation with a doctor at a health insurance company who is hiding his identity as her patient gets denied coverage. And it gets worse from there. You have to see it to believe it.Just listen to the conversation and then check out the thread.

There is a whole bloody story that follows from thois excahange being posted on social media and United Healthcare going after the doctor and her clinic, which is par for the course, I suppose.

The thing is, the exchange shows you that when health insurence companies deny payment, the decision is not being taken by people who understand the medical basis for the claims, but by faceless, soulless, and apparently nameless bureaucrats looking at human life as nothing more than mere numbers.

This whole system needs to be chucked wholescale and replaced with something we know works *better than this* everywhere else. And as I've been saying over and over again, this is not just this specifc system or that. Practically every system we live with is corrupt and failing. We can't survive as a viable nation by simply tinkering at the edges of our massively unsalvagable institutions.
