He was a retired Navy officer. I'm guessing it was about 40 acres, with a small lake. He had a small orchard that another guy contracted to harvest. Otherwise, David pursued his hobby of beekeeping. He was paid not to farm by the feds, so most of his property remained natural. Wildlife would use the lake as a watering hole.

On its face, it looked like a racket, but to make the regions economy work the subsidy was absolutely necessary. Government makes the investment to ensure food security for the rest of us.
