I think the last time we saw Trump back out of some kind of scandal that breaks out around him was the Access Hollywood video apology, which I'm sure he thinks was excessively humiliating and has no interest in repeating. All he has done since then is double down and dare the public to double down on their reaction. He has been winning every dare since then (because [insert a comment on the gutlessness of our institutions]).
So if you follow that pattern, the next step for him to double down is to pardon Ghislane Maxwell. He will have shown starkly where he stands and dare his supporters to stick to their convictions wrt how they feel about the Epstein rape ring.
MAGA will then back down because they're a bunch of betas who think they're alphas.
