Also from the Summer Reading issue of The Economist:
Mark (don't call me curly) Zuckerberg is building a "data center the size on Manhattan, dubbed Hyperion, that will consume the same amount of power in a year as New Zealand."
So I asked Google AI to look up how much electricity New Zealand uses in a year. Here's their answer: "New Zealand's electricity consumption in 2023 was 39,134.557 GWh. This reflects a slight increase from the previous year, 2022, where consumption was 39,062.154 GWh."
That seems like a lot, but what do I know.
