(schools, corporations, law firms, media outlets, and other organizations) start standing up for one another in a sense of solidarity and become a locus of opposition rather than each one cowering under their desks hoping the velociraptor with pass by. Trump is picking them each one by one because each groups is looking out for themselves on their own.
This is what the cultural indoctrination in individualism and disdain for collective action that every American is relentlessly exposed to since the moment of birth leads to: an utter inability to show solidarity and form a cohesive front.
