Read through the Wikipedia entry on Nigeria, and then the one on Religion in Nigeria. It's mind-numbing. Portraying it as a conflict between Muslims and Christians is vastly oversimplifiying this. There are factions and subfactions for all the religious groups.

Also, while the federal government is officially secular, the individual Nigerian states have varying legal approaches to the status of religion within their borders. Many are secular, some offer Islamic law as a mutually consentual means of arbitration, while some make Islamic law the law in their state. So some of the individual states legislate against Christians, but most do not.

Boko Haram is the primary source of Jihadsim and political violence. But there is also ISWAP, which is an extremist group affiliated with ISIS that broke off from Boko Haram. These groups are enemies of the Nigerian goverment.

So my questions to President Trump would be:

Who, exactly, are we going to fight?
Who, exactly, would we see as our allies?
What, exactly, would victory look like?
