This conflict was just beginning to pit senate Republicans against Trump. That pressure was going to cause some cracks, maybe not big ones, but better than nothing.
Then these moderates just stepped in and helped them out.
I think the case can be made that there shouldn't have been a shutdown in the first place, a position I'm leaning towards personally. If you're not able to absorb a big amount of pain, don't get into the contest in the first place.
What was the gain from a whole month's worth of shut down? Democrats like like losers right after they delivered a huge victory on election day.
Mind boggling to me, which is why I'm saying you either don't get started or you finish. What you don't do is give up halfway through especially when you *finally* have the upper hand.
