passed up by journalist without even some kind of a needle scratch effect. I'm not saying they should call the president out or openly say that what he said was unacceptable and offensive or any of that (I think that would be a mismatch with the nature of the relationship between a president and their press corp). What I mean is some other journalist hitting the break there and repeating his statement and asking if they heard him correctly, or askikng him what he meant by that, or anything else that underlines the moment and does not pretend like that was some glitch in reality and what they heard surely didn't happen. I'm not looking for moral judgment, just acknowledging what just happened and follow through.

He gets away so mch by the polite socety's instinive desire to normalize things. That's practocally his bread and butter.
