the ink-like technology they use. Once you throw something on a tablet or ipad, you get that backlight, which is not that bad, but not as muted.
Also:
- Calibre is available on linux too. It's a good way to organize ebooks.
- I have maybe second generation kindle that still works. I kinda not want the new ones because I don't want my "book" to be touchscreen.
- I've used kindle, I also have DC and Marvel subscription on my tablet, and I have no real problems with the concept, but man ... it really doesn't feel like I'm reading a book. It's like having a digital copy of an album. It's good. You can play it on different devices and all, but they don't feel like I'm reading or listening to the real thing.
- another reason to say no to kindle and that whole Amazon thing: if I am not mistaken Amazon occasionally changes the book you've downloadd. I remember hearing stories around it, certain words being replaced by other words.
- and yet another one: from what I understand, Kindle is a horrible platform for authors, since Amazon is also moving to subscription model. Anytime a platform goes to subscription model, the artists and people who actually create the content inevitably get shortchanged. (the consumer starts leaning towards using the platform to consume even more of the content/music, but that additional use rarely goes back to the creators/musicians as extra payment). This is a problem with other platforms too, whether it's Spotify or Netflix and their competitors.
