That did not come out of nowhere. He and his team were trying to address concerns that were out there being whispered about.
Despite what confused would like to believe, Democrats are not a cult. There is occasional hero worship that goes on in that party obviously (famously, Democrats like to fall in love) but they are not a cult. Republicans have been that for the past decade at the very least.
