I have absolutely no problems with anyone speaking ill of any person who just died. Private or public. I personally reserve the right to talk sh*t about anyone at any moment before, after or during their death, if that's how I feel about them. I may choose not to say it to people whose feelings I don't want to hurt, but that's a general filter that applies at all times. The person's death has nothing to do with it.
So f*ck Charlie Kirk. He was a piece of sh*t when he was alive, and I am glad I no longer have to think about him anymore (except when the right incessantly drags his name into the discussion all the time).
Ok, so what about Trump's comment about Rob Reiner? I don't give a sh*t. I know that's how he feels, and I expect nothing less of him than to say what he thinks, as everyone should. You didn't like him? You thought he was a d*ckhead? Go for it. Say exactly what you think. There's nothing sacrosanct about dead people. They impacted your life one way or another, you speak your mind and be honest about it when they're gone, good or bad. I expect nothing less done to me when I'm gone, so all is fair.
The problem with Trump's post was not that he spoke ill of the dead (fire away, bro, don't hold back) but the way he makes it about himself like he does all ... the ... time. Two people were killed brutally by their son in their own homes, and of all the comments he could make about the people who died, the person who (allegedly) killed him, or the whole situation itself, Trump managed to make it all about him and did so erroneously, perhaps assuming initially that some MAGA person had killed them, and he has to preemptively wiggle.
My feeling about his comment was identical to his comment regarding West Virginia in response to a question about whether he would ho to the funeral of the member of the national guard who was killed. He said he might and then couldn't stop talking about how much they love him in the state and how big his win was. It's his utter inability to address any issue without inserting himself smack-dab in the middle of it. It can never be about anyone else. THAT was what was sick about his post, not whether he said unkind words about Reiner. Coz, otherwise, who cares what he says, and that was probably the whole point of him saying what he said.
