But there are probably 2, 3 or 4 implicit narratives of "human nature" that the voters in America subscribe to, at least subconsciously.
And one of those is, "people are bad, they can't be trusted even if they say they are trying to help/make things better, so all you can do is take care of yourself, first and foremost."
I think there is a fair amount of messaging associated with that negative narrative. How about, "Government isn't the solution...government is the problem."?
