I don't remember my teachers. I was in Psychology not History. I lived in Rieber.
I was planning to work with the Asian Coalition but talking to Warren Furutani (who I respect a lot), the issues they were working on were trivial imo.
That was when the term "Asian Pacific Islander" was being established. They were not trying to get rid of the word Asian instead of Oriental but somehow Oriental is the term that eventually became forbidden. I find that idiotic, much like asking Hispanics to call themselves LatinX.
Throughout my years at UCLA, I would pop in his office to ask questions and he would give me great guidance like broadening my DEI journey by reading Malcolm X.
I use a lot of wisdom gained from those short conversations about 1980s current events in my current work at my community college in helping to establish a culture welcoming to minority populations beyond race (the poor, Foster children, vets, disabled, LGBTQ, etc).
