In 2018-19 Julie K Brown a writer for the Miami Herald was the one who eventually got Epstein charged again. Brown had been investigating the case and after Trump put Acosta on his cabinet, her book and articles made the case get into the public eye and ultimately led to him being charged and arrested.
Brown had told co workers and friends she thought she was being followed, she'd seen cars etc that she thought was the FBI. Turns out she was probably right. In newly released documents she's publicly quesitioned, the DOJ was in fact tracking her, on the day Epstein was arrested they had flight logs of her on a commercial flight that was booked under maiden name not her married name which indicates they had done enough research to know it was her. There are other documents that seem to indicate they had been tracking her for weeks if not months
She's not sure why but assumes it relates to her reporting on Epstein and concern that it might in some way compromise Trump who was of course POTUS at the time
