There is no believing in the US or Russia so diplomacy doesn't matter.
The US/Russia promised to protect Ukraine after they gave up nukes.
Russia promised to respect Ukraine's borders after taking Crimea.
The only thing that matters is that Russia or Ukraine is put in a place where they can no longer effectively attack the other.
You have to have trusted partners to have diplomacy and the US and Russia don't have any credibility.
We have a WWII senario in this situation not the Korean War.
