is no more American troops dying. Fight a war with drones or by proxy or by high altitude bombing or through missiles, it does not count as war.
Also, this is not just endemic to the right. Remember "no blood for oil"? The opposition to the Iraq War was not about the sovereignty of Iraq as a nation. It was not about the absence of any moral justification for the war. It was about trading American lives for oil.
I wasn't around during the Vietnam War but from what I've been able to pick up from various media about that period is that the objection was not so much about letting the Vietnamese sort out their own civil war and us having no say on who governs them, but how many American were being lost.
It's not all that far from the common argument against torture in the '00s. It was not about the inhumanity of torture but its inefficacy in obtaining reliable intelligence.
We, as a nation, and as a general rule, don't do principles and morality very well.
