He knows all this is bullsh*t and he knows he sold his soul to the devil in return for a run a presidency, and he knows the whole thing is going to fail massively. That's why he's backpedaling as he speeds forward.

That's the trade he made. As tragic as it may be, he deserves every bit of his imminent downfall.
