underlying problems and are desperately looking for solutions that require minimal change to how we do things now.
First off, make election day a holiday (I'm more of a "move elections to the weekend guy, but I do understand that tradition is sacrosanct and the constitution is immutable).
Second, you can set up polls that are open for a stretch of time. You can make it possible to cast a vote outside of your polling place. There are many many ways to accommodate for people who are able-bodied but physically can't be at their designated poll on the election day for any reason.
Third, you can have services where city officials collect the votes of people who are disabled, too old, etc and can't get to the polls on their own.
Fourth, signatures are such a 20th century way of establishing identity. Signatures may or may not match for any number of reasons, including physical deterioration, however minor, or the fact that a lot of young people change their signatures over time. I think relying on signatures in any platform is suspect.
This is the 21st century, We're supposed to be a nation builders (remember those days?). We're supposed to be the f*cking vanguard. And yet, we've resigned to rely on a signature as porof? We can do better, IMO.
The bigger problem, I think, and I truly believe this, is that we've stopped trying somewhere along the line because we stopped caring.
