After Sparta won the Peloponnesian War in 404 BCE, they established a short-lived hegemony over Greece, dismantling the Athenian Empire, installing the brutal "Thirty Tyrants" oligarchy in Athens, and tearing down the Long Walls. Sparta quickly became an oppressive power, leading to widespread resentment, internal decline, and eventual defeat by Thebes.

It happens more often than we think
