Mine did not. My favorite movie of the year was Hamnet. The magic of the theater has always been strong with me, and seeing the audience at the Globe Theater lose themselves collectively as they reached out to Hamlet put a lump in my throat.

I can't tell where Sinners left off and any number of Jordan Peele movies took over. When it comes to combining horror and societal commentary, I think JP > RC. The blues numbers in Sinners were extraordinarily good...but the supernatural elements and gore prevented me from being able to emotionally invest into the movie/story.

What if The Dude was a bomb-making revolutionary? Funny concept for an SNL skit. BDT played the whole movie with an ironic "wink wink" the whole way through (aka his half @ssed "to the revolution!" upraised fist salute to Dipshiit Bob), and that's how I felt as a viewer. The implicit commentary about how efficient, effective and competent an immigrant like BDT is in America compared to a native one like Dipshiit Bob did not go unnoticed. Teyana was a fantastic revelation, but the disgust I felt at Sean Penn's character, knowing there were probably more than a few people in the audience who didn't see him as a sick caricature of a repugnant fascist but instead as an RFK Jr. "truth speaker" stand in, and the crypto-fascist cabal robbed any joy or uplift I would get from the film.
