This is a megalomaniac suddenly realizing how small and insignificant he is. He is getting ever closer to pushing the red button, IMO.
And then there is the NYT, completely sanewashing it.
Whatever regime change we're going to have, whether it is now, in November or in 2 years (whatever's left of the USA at that point), it's not happening without the conventional media, which is why the media capture that's been going on is so important to the fascists.
