Trump is desperate for approval. By this point in his life, it comes naturally to him - he's been claiming un-deserved accolades for so long it's simply a lifestyle trait.
He's not alone in that regard - witness Kash Patel with the US Men's hockey team, and Pete Hegseth anytime the military accomplishes anything, etc.
Only losers try to take credit for the accomplishments of others.
