I agree with you in that we need to close down a bunch of military bases all over the world. Maybe equal it out to pay for good health care, day care, cheaper or free colleges, better infrastructure. Our military expenditures are greater than the top 5 combined. We are so worried about being the world police we are neglecting the citizens we are supposed to be protecting.
BUT, the military industrial complex will be a hard nut to crack.
Eisenhower, in his farewell address heavily address the military complex and said this:
Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. . . . In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
