I've used them for years and yes they are a big part of why taxes suck. The last 2 years I had to pay a nice lady to do my taxes for me because Turbo Tax doesn't seem to know how to handle domestic partnerships and you get to a point in the filing where no matter what you do, your return gets rejected. There's some thing to figure out income and it doesn't work no matter what we do. Googling it confirms lots of people have the same issue.
We got married in Feb so the wife and I can do our own next year but we had to pay nearly 600 dollars each of the last 2 years because Turbo Tax can't do the return correctly and the crazy thing is using TT, I get virtually the exact same result so it IS correct, but the program won't let you finish. 2 years ago I bought it and installed it and I finally got a refund took ages. This year I did the online version and again exact same place in return you can't do that without doing this and wouldn't let me do it.
But i've used it for so long I will probably use them next year to do my own rather than get another product and have a learning curve.
And they keep hounding me in email you need to finish and file taxes are due in 5 days. Drives me nuts
