The objectives appear to be 1) regime change and 2) elimination of Iran's nuclear enrichment program.
Neither can be achieved by bombing from the air alone. You have to put boots on the ground. Thousands of them. Tens of thousands probably. Hundreds of thousands possibly. Such an operation would create Vietnam-level casualties.
So either Trump stupidly commits to that, or he reduces the objectives while trying to find a way to save face. The latter approach is what Nixon did for four years.
The smart move would have been to leave the JCPOA in place. But Trump understood the JCPOA had a fatal flaw: Barack Obama's fingerprints were on it.
And here we are. Only stupid moves are left.
