then they are mow. Both parties shifted to the right since then, where the Democratic Party arrived at where the Republican Party was in the '90s, give and take, the Republican Party has transformed into a Fascist Party.

What has amplified the difference was the Republicans crossing the line, which changed what used to be a quantitative difference into a qualitative one. That said, the conflict between the two parties takes place in a sphere that is so far away from me that my only skin in the game is simply the fat that while I find the world that Democrats are advocating for to be an intolerable and somewhat hostile to common good and human dignity, the world that Republicans are building right now is downright destructive. Hence the nose-holding. It's a function of where I am on the political field as opposed to where these two parties are.

The difference between the parties became substantive for me with the Iraq War in the '00s. That was also when the levels of political polarization in the country kicked into a new level. A lot of wedge issues were used, nationalist rhetoric started to ascend, and I had to make an uncomfortable and pragmatic alliance with the Democratic Party. But that's all this is. A transactional relationship.
