President Donald Trump won’t have any more trouble with the IRS thanks to new terms his administration added to a settlement it reached with the president in his personal capacity.
In addition to the $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” the Justice Department created as part of the settlement, a new document uploaded to the department’s website Tuesday essentially ends any tax enforcement that might have been ongoing against the president.
The document says the government is “FOREVER BARRED” from prosecuting or pursuing any “examinations or similar or related reviews” of the president, his family members or any related businesses in connection with tax returns filed before this week.
In other words, if the IRS had an ongoing audit of the president, according to the terms of the settlement, the audit is dead now.
