Yep I just googled that and bingo you are right. They discontinued all larger than 100 bills in 1969 to prevent financial crimes. It was one of the big concerns with Crypto of course, which Trump is using for criminal purposes now.
But by allowing a 250 dollar bill you can get large amounts with a smaller package. exactly what drug dealers and sex traffickers want
