I think Newsom's biggest hurdle is being Californian.

I don't sense that the rest of the country is looking to California for leadership. When we fail, it's because Californian's are crazies or weirdos. When we succeed, it's attributed to exceptional circumstances.

And let's face it: Newsom plays into a lot of California stereotypes.
