We are in Philippines now. Arrived in Manila yesterday then flew to Dumaguete City. We take a ferry to Siquijor later today where we will be for 6 weeks.
We were here in 2024/2025 for 3 months I have pictures of getting Diesel at gas stations in Siquijor and Dumaguete. Gas then Diesel was 58 to 63 pesos per liter. Gas in Dumaguete is 93 pesos now my wife's cousin Jake said it hit 125 for a few weeks but demand destruction is now dropping the price. That is people couldn't afford to drive so they didn't and it forced prices to drop
The entire economy here is reeling. Dumaguete City is famous for American and European ex pats there's tons of them on youtube. They are even complaining about it as prices go up due to gas but the locals are screwed. If you drive a pedi cab for example a gas powered tricycle to take passengers around, your cost is up 50% for gas and then everything else food, etc is all up and you can't make that up.
If Oil gets to 150 160 like the Exxon CEO forecasts these people are in real trouble as gas will go back over 120 a liter. 120 a liter is about 7.34 a gallon USD for Diesel. It got there with oil just over 110 if it's 160 they may see 150 or more per liter like 9 dollar gas.
Her Cousin says there's a rash now of gas thefts put in the gas and then take off without paying.
The boats are limited now they just went back to an almost 100% schedule after a month of reduced ones but they cut all discounts so senior discounts, military, student etc all are gone. The ferry is a daily thing here people live in Siquijor and work or go to school in Dumaguete so they take the ferry daily both ways.
The girl at the front desk was telling us she hasn't eaten dinner in a restaurant in 4 weeks because she can't afford to now due to gas. And they don't drive big SUV's here they drive small motorcycle/scooters that get good mileage but when costs go up 50% because of some dementia addled moron you can't recover
