I think of all the mainstream Democrats out there, he has been the one that progressives are having the warmest feelings for at the moment. He may be able to play a semi-unifying role should the party is interested in an alliance with progressives at least half as much as they crave an alliance with pre-Trump Republicans.
Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Booker, especially Newsom and most certainly anyone in the AIPAC bunch are non-starters for progressives at the moment.
Given the way the party treated Mamdani, and how they pushed against Plattner even after Mills dropped out suggests to me that the whole "Vote Blue No Matter Who" thing is no longer the ironclad argument that establishment democrats would like to believe.
