especially up front in people's mind because that was a classic thing that Italian and Brazilian teams loved to do all the time. Fans generally hated it from day one, by the way.

It also maters that the joke was done with an obvious level of affection and not intended as a put down. The same joke that starts out as poking good-natured fun in the beginning can quickly turn into an unimaginative passive-aggressive bullsh*t when it gets repetitive and it's no longer grounded in reality. Making the same joke oever and over again tends to have that effect.

But yeah. I remember those spots and never picked up a hostile intent behind that. That's not the case with Dr. Bruin, however. He's simply spite signaling because for some reason he feels the urge.
