...then there can be no offside called.
That's my suggested solution.
Offside exists to prevent "cherry picking" (to use a bball term) and to avoid scores in the teens.
But once a team has done the hard work to get the ball down the field without being offside, take the BS micro-measuring garbage off the table.
I love watching France execute a give-and-go backdoor cut with Mbappe on the wing, passing to Olise up top, then streaking for the goal, getting a perfectly timed pass and finding the back of the net. I'd hate to see Mbappe being denied a goal because his defender jumps out to deflect Mbappe's pass, and gets burned backdoor.
I think there's been a situation or two during this WC where the defensive team takes possession of the ball while the ball is in the penalty box zone, the defenders start to break upfield, the attacking players are slow to react, the attacking team re-gains possession, and lofts a ball towards the goal that an attacker heads or boots in.
If you turn the ball over that deep in your own end, there should be consequences. You shouldn't have a rule designed to prevent 70 yard passes to cherry picking strikers bail out a dumb team that creates a bad turnover deep in their own end.
