The vast majority of respondents (88.0%) considered it very or extremely important that the US remain a democracy.
However, 15.0% strongly or very strongly agreed that “having a strong leader for America is more important than having a democracy,” and 11.6% strongly or very strongly agreed with a proposal to “suspend Congress for a few years so a strong leader can clean up the mess made by politicians in Washington”.
About 6% of respondents strongly or very strongly agreed that the federal government should arrest ordinary people and reporters or journalists who publicly oppose or criticize “its policies or the President”.
2.1% were very or completely willing personally to commit violence to support “the government’s enforcement of its policies”.
MAGA Republicans (2.4%) were not (statistically significant) more willing than strong Democrats (1.3%) to engage in political violence.
