Refineries have been taken off line. Others have been damaged.
And although the US produces enough oil, it's not that simple. We have too much oil on the east coast and we we export part of that. Meanwhile the west coast imports oil.
We don't have the infrastucture to bring oil from the east coast to west-coast refineries.
Finally global oil shortages will still push prices higher and that will include prices in the US.
We might try to ban US oil exports, but that won't keep gasoline prices down. Prices are still set globally.
Drill, baby, drill and pump, baby, pump just won't work.
