Both countries have an emerging middle class, that dont want to go back to the peasant days. Both countries needed the middle class to emerge so that the aristocracy can get more of the goods created in these new economies. The gilded age cant work because the people have to many tools to knock it down. They only true path is through cooperation and despots want my way or the highway. Depots always lose, the only question is how long they get to try.
