You feel rich if you are richer than your neighbor, not by absolute terms of your wealth.

The same goes with health outcomes.

If we look at the health outcomes of the 10 most republican states, whites are healthy in comparison to blacks.

State Black LE (avg) White LE (avg) Gap (years)
West Virginia 64.4 72.5 8.1
Missouri 69.4 75.8 6.5
Kentucky 69.2 73.3 4.1
Mississippi 69.5 73.0 3.5
Arkansas 68.8 73.8 5.0
Oklahoma 68.7 74.1 5.4
Indiana 70.7 75.3 4.7
Tennessee 70.7 74.3 3.6
Louisiana 70.9 75.2 4.3
Alabama 70.9 74.1 3.2

However your life expectancy sucks as a GOPer in comparison to a Dem.

Group Average life expectancy
10 most Democratic states 78.9 years
10 most Republican states 75.2 years

3.7 year gap
