Interesting article in the Guardian today about rising bankruptcies among businesses owned by private equity. Rich folk buy up businesses, leverage them and extract whatever they can as quickly as possible. If you’ve ever been to a shopping mall, you are familiar with brand name businesses that have been bought, indebted and asset stripped into bankruptcy: Sears, Toys R Us, Kmart, Radio Shack, Joann Fabrics, Saks, etc. Any business that has valuable real estate and low margins is a potential target.
