The Houthis carried out major attacks in southern Saudi Arabia, with dozens of people wounded, as fighting between the Iran-aligned group and pro-Saudi forces in Yemen sharply escalated.
The Houthis said they targeted Saudi energy sites belonging to oil giant Aramco with the armed group’s military spokesperson calling it “a broad operation” that will continue.
Saudi authorities have pledged a firm response.

Deadly prison attack in Yemen sparked Houthi retaliation
The Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia came after the rebels accused Riyadh of an attack on a prison that killed 11 people and left 20 inmates missing, according to Al Masirah TV channel.
Grim images from the scene showed rescuers digging in the rubble with their bare hands and carrying bodies wrapped in blankets.
The Houthis said they fired dozens of ballistic missiles and drones in response, hitting Abha International Airport, King Khalid airbase, and facilities belonging to state oil giant Aramco in Abha and Jizan.
Jizan, on the Red Sea coast just north of Saudi Arabia’s border with Yemen, has one of the country’s biggest oil refineries with a capacity of 400,000 barrels per day. According to maritime tracking company Kpler, it was out of action for several weeks until at least August 20, following earlier Houthi attacks.

Saudi Arabia has accused Yemen’s Houthi rebels of launching attacks on civilian and economic sites in the kingdom, wounding at least 73 civilians, including women and children.
The accusation came on Tuesday as fighting intensified in Yemen, where the Saudi-backed, internationally recognised government has launched a counteroffensive to retake territory from the Iran-backed Houthis.
