I wonder how much of this actually resonates with non-boomers

For boomers, the word "communist" will inevitably trigger a sense of existential threat. It's like a primal reaction for that generation. Gen X, maybe to some more limited extent -- at least it would trigger some "bad guy on the horizon" response.

But for millenials? zoomers?

I'm gonna guess that "muslim" would probably be more effective bogeymen for millenials than "commie" because of 9/11, Iraq War, the "muslim sleeping cells" hysteria and all that.

For zoomers? I dunno. The Obama era probably didn't generate an "other" the same way.
