Refusal to stand during the national anthem became a widespread form of protest during World War I. In the late 1960s, the protest became increasingly common as an opposition to the Vietnam War. More recently, athletes used it to protest racial injustice and police brutality. Donald Trump stated his opposition to NFL players kneeling during the anthem: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say ‘Get that son of a b*tch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!”

Why should anyone show respect for flag that represents a president who respects nobody? What better way than refusing to stand during the national anthem at sporting events?
