We also retreated from asking that he make his tax returns public (is he still being "audited"?). Those ships have sailed. What little transparency and integrity we had left in the system crumbled under the immense power of a stubborn old man saying "nah, I'm not gonna do that". Wow.
This is the problem when you have a system that operates on norms rather than legal framework. There is no actual force behind any of the standards.
Details matter. The USA as an entity is failing because we have never put in the work required by maintenance and upkeep. We have, in so many ways, been the rich entitled kid who thinks the world will always work out to their benefit no matter the conditions.
