It's an X thread rolled up. This is the opening statement.
"We must not delude ourselves in this moment. Multiracial democracy in the United States is less than 60 years old"
If I may quibble a bit, democracy in the US is less than 60 years old, not just the multiracial variation of it. What we had before was apartheid, not a democracy. Just because the ruling race was in the majority, it doesn't mean it was a democracy. You can't have a democracy to the exclusion of the black minority for almost 200 years of the country's history.
Other than that, she is spot on. She mentions Reconstruction which was a failed attempt at democracy. We may be in the last phase of Reconstruction II.
She also mentions that the Democratic Party reflects multi racial democracy. That is to the party's credit despite its flaws. I agree. I want to add that California has truly become a multi racial democracy. That is the biggest reason we are a boogeyman that lives in righ wingers heads rent free. When you hear, "don't California my state," what it means is clear.
Obviously Reconstruction II has made a lot more progress than Reconstruction I. Dismantling it has always been the right's goal. They will never give up.
