Our species did not achieve evolutionary success because of any inherent advantage. We were not bigger, stronger, faster, or otherwise better-equipped. And in the beginning, we were not smarter.
We succeeded because we worked together in groups.
First, we worked together by hunting in teams. Later, we began doing other things together, all by working in teams (including agriculture, religion, politics, and even the sophisticated business and social environments we take for granted today).
Working in teams is what made us human.
Working together in teams is based on trust. Trust is based on honesty.
And Trump lacks both. That’s his superpower.
Most of us learn to respect not just the law, but the social boundaries that enable us to live together without constant friction. All human cultures teach their young how to function in society without violating the trust that holds them together. Most of us respect and adhere to these bonds, because we understand that these co-operative relationships benefit us all.
But Donald Trump is different. His superpower is the ability to completely disregard those bonds. His behavior is so out-of-normal that most people don’t even recognize it for what it is.
In fact, most of us are so “human” that we assume everyone else we see is also human - we simply cannot recognize the anti-human among us.
How long will it take… and how many lives will be destroyed… before our society recognizes the damage done by the anti-human among us?
