he would simply claim that he's doing that to wrong an injustice and he is as innocent as a newborn baby (obviously, not the Palestinian kind, but I digress) and that would be that.

Does he even need to pardon himself though? I mean he will be controlling the DOJ and will have the ability to purge anyone who would be inclined to follow the law and replace them with people who feel empowered by prostrating themselves in front of their God Emperor. By the time he's finished, (a) there will be no one left in the federal government who would want to prosecute him, and (b) the institutions in this country will have been reconfigured in just the right way that makes it impossible for anyone who actually opposes him to win a nation-wide election.

Should he fall short of that goal, he can always run for a third term. Who's gonna stop him? The supreme court? They will simply rule that the 22ns Amendment is unconstitutional because the founders didn't intend it and also there is no 16th century English precedence for it.

If that's a bridge too far, they can always start with "what the 22nd really means is no third consecutive term" and then move their way to nullify the amendment should Trump live that long.

It's all words on a piece of paper.
