Students from my community college have a better chance of graduating UCLA than those enrolled as a freshmen.

If you want to transfer to a UC via community college I recommend ...

Enter the honors program (TAP). 85% of our honors students go to UCLA. The other 15% go to USC, Ivy, etc.

Join CCCP which partners a community college student with UCLA transfers who help coach you through the process. Over the summer you can take a class or go through some orientation at UCLA. My students who go are always inspired and always get into UCLA.

I didn't have my son apply to any Cal States because it is difficult to transfer from a CSU to a UC however there are slots reserved for community college transfers.

If you have the money, I would recommend going to UC Merced or UCR if the major you want to be in is important like Engineering. I

If you goto a community college and get a C in something like Physics, you aren't getting into a better UC, especially as an engineer.

If you go to UCR or UCM as an engineer and get a C, you can still graduate as an engineer. Also if you finish your general ed at any UC and do well, you can transfer to a better UC and they will simply check off that your general eds are done. You don't have to transfer classes one for one as you would if you were transferring from a CSU or a non-UC college.

Here is a secret. There is no global database of grades for community college so if you get a C early in your career, go to a different community college and don't mention the first community college on your application.
